Speaker Profiles:

 

Shinichi Yoshikuni

Mr. Shinichi Yoshikuni is Senior Adviser at Shinko Securities Co. Before taking up his current position, he worked with the Bank of International Settlements as Senior Adviser and prior to that as the Chief Representative in Asia–Pacific. He had started his professional career with the Bank of Japan holding several key positions including that of the Chief of International Finance Division, the Deputy Director of International Department and the Chief Representative in Europe.



He had also been seconded to the Economic Planning Agency (Keizai Kicakucho) and to the International Monetary Fund as the Alternate Executive Director for Japan. Mr. Yoshikuni is B.A. in Economics from Hitotssubashi University and M.B.A. in Finance from University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School.

Mr C S Mohapatra

Mr C S Mohapatra is an officer of the Indian Economic Service and is currently Director in the Capital Markets Division of the Ministry of Finance of the Government of India. Prior to taking up this current assignment, he has held several important positions in civil service, including that of Director in the Planning Commission. Early in his career he has also been a lecturer in economics and a banker for some time. Mr Mohapatra is an MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and is currently engaged in doctoral research at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. 



At the 2007 ASAF Conference, Mr Mohapatra is speaker for the session: Capital Market Reforms in India – Pointers for the Next Decade.

Angelina Kwan

Ms. Angelina Kwan is currently the Head of Legal and Compliance for Cantor Fitzgerald International / BGC Partners, L.P. and is responsible for all legal and regulatory matters for the Group in the Asia Pacific region. She is also appointed by the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Commission as a Director of the Hong Kong Securities Institute. Prior to joining Cantor Fitzgerald, she was with the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission as a Director of the Supervision of Markets Division as well as a Director of Enforcement.



She has also worked for a number of international banks and brokerages where she established the internal audit, compliance and legal functions. Ms Kwan is a Certified Public Accountant, both in Hong Kong and the United States (State of California), and is a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Accounting), an M.B.A (Finance), and a Bachelor of Laws. She is also Honorary Professor of Finance at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University

At the 2007 ASAF Conference, Ms Kwan is speaker for the session: Role of Professional Analysts in Promoting Market Ethics – the Asian Perspective.

B S Raghavan

Mr B S Raghavan is a retired bureaucrat, columnist and author. As an officer of the India Administrative Service he held leadership positions in the State Governments of West Bengal and Tripura and also in the Government of India. He also headed major public undertakings namely Damodar Valley Corporation, West Bengal Power Development Corporation and Durgapur Projects Limited. Mr Raghavan has been a member/leader of India’s delegation to various international bodies such as FAO, GATT, UNCTAD, and Economic & Social Council of the UN.



He was also a US Congressional Fellow. Mr Raghavan is currently on the board of various academic institutions, trusts and other bodies. He is a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award for service to humanity and the Bhishma Award for service to the cause of education. The writings of Mr Raghavan are wide ranging and cover social and corporate issues of topical interest.

T S Harihar

Mr T S Harihar is Vice President in the Equity Derivatives department of Karvy Stock Broking Ltd. As the country head for the futures and options business of Karvy, his responsibilities include research, strategy and institutional sales. Mr Harihar holds a Master’s degree in Commerce and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

N K Garg

Mr N K Garg is the Chief Executive Officer of Sahara Asset Management Co. He has nearly two decades of experience in the Indian mutual fund industry handling fund management of offshore funds, domestic equity fund and hybrid funds. Besides being a Chartered Financial Analyst, Mr. Garg also is Chartered Engineer, M.B.A. and has also completed his CAIIB- Mutual Funds and  IAC (I & II ) from London. He also a winner of Chevening Scholarship.

Bijan Roy

Dr Bijan Roy is currently the Controller of Examinations at ICFAI University. A technocrat turned financial analyst and academician, he started his career with the Steel Authority of India Ltd where he was involved with the commissioning, maintenance and materials planning of the Continuous Casting Plant at Durgapur. He was also involved with the estimation of capacity expansion and the preparation of revised cost estimate for modernization of the Durgapur Steel Plant.

 



As an academician he has taught courses in financial derivatives, investments, market microstructure and corporate finance and has presented and published several papers on fund-performance. Dr Roy is BE (Electrical) from Bengal Engineering College, CFA, and PhD from ICFAI University, Dehradun.

O P Gupta

Prof O P Gupta is the Director of IBS Gurgaon. Before joining IBS, he held several senior academic and administrative positions at the University of Delhi, including those of the Head of the Department of Financial Studies and the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce & Business. He has also been a visiting faculty at IIM Indore and has taught at Ahmadu Bello University in Nigeria. Prof Gupta has authored many books and research papers in the area of capital markets and is engaged in consultancy with several business organizations. 

 



He has also been the P.R. Director of the Delhi Stock Exchange and a member of Regional Advisory Committee of the National Stock Exchange. Prof Gupta obtained his M Com and Ph D from the Delhi School of Economics.

At the 2007 ASAF Conference, Prof Gupta will present the Concluding Remarks.
